Community Gardens

The Apace Community Gardens are the oldest community gardens in Western Australia. These organic vegetable gardens are run on an allotment system providing access to land for vegetable growing and have been in operation since 1985. There is a waiting list for community gardeners to get a plot. There has been a surge of interest in community gardens in the past 10 year’s and there are now signs of them beginning to flourish elsewhere in WA.

The gardens have played many roles over the past 32 years. They have been a haven for flat dwellers with no access to land for vegetable growing and have provided access to the earth for newly arrived rural immigrants. They have acted as an educational and teaching environment for school children.

The community gardens are a great spot to stop on tours of Apace so people can just see vegetables growing in the ground the organic way.
