Small erect or ascending, leafless shrub to 0.3 to 1.2 metres high. Orange pea flowers in spring which attract bees. It is shade tolerant and resprouts after fire. It typically grows on black peaty or clay rich soils, generally in winter-wet depressions or swamp edges.
