Apace is a community based not for profit organisation operating since 1982 to promote sustainable local development that is environmentally sound and socially beneficial. Training, education, and support for the disadvantaged are focal points of the organisation.
The organisation’s commitment to the protection and enhancement of the environment led to the development of the Apace Community Revegetation Nursery. The nursery is accredited with the Nursery Industry Association of Australia and specialises in supplying plants of the Swan Coastal Plain and Darling Range.
Apace is seeking several suitably qualified or experienced people to work in the nursery. You must be fit and healthy and be able to fit in with a small team and work independently.
Employment will be initially offered as a three-month trial contract. Apace is willing to offer permanent employment to suitable applicants after this trial period.
Standard working hours are 6.45am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday, with a fortnightly Rostered Day Off (RDO). These hours can be subject to change and flexibility is essential.
Essential Skills

- Knowledge and experience of plant propagation techniques and practices.
- Knowledge and experience in planting techniques and practices.
- Physically fit and capable of demanding outdoor work.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with customers and volunteers.
- Prepared to work in different weather conditions.
- Current C Class Manual Driver’s License.
Desirable Skills
- Qualification in Horticulture or Conservation and Land Management
- Knowledge of the flora of Western Australia, in particular the flora of the Swan Coastal Plain and Darling Range.
- Knowledge and experience in identification of Perth Region endemic flora.
- Knowledge and experience in seed collection and processing techniques.
- WA Pest Management Technician Licence.
- Ability to drive with a trailer.
- Experience in using machinery, such as chainsaws and brush cutters.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
DUTIES
- Maintain nursery industry accreditation standards and report deficiencies.
- Maintain nursery records as required.
- Monitor plant growth and health.
- Assemble, label, pack, and deliver orders.
- Layout plant stock throughout nursery as required.
- Be aware of production targets.
- Assist with the restocking of the retail sales area.
- Propagation and growing on of local species.
- Sorting, grading, and condensing of stock around the nursery.
- Identifying and treating pests/diseases.
- Undertake both chemical and manual weed control.
- Serving customers in the retail nursery.
- Other duties as required.
Remuneration: An hourly rate will be negotiated commensurate with skills and experience.
